When this film arrived through the door I was reluctant to watch it. After all the praise that The King’s Speech received and the awards it won I thought that it was probably going to let me down and turn out boring.
George V’s second eldest son Albert has a stammer, and having being publicly embarrassed making a speech to the world at Wembley must overcome his fears with help from an unlikely friend.
As soon as the film began I was gripped. Colin Firth’s performance as Albert was utterly genius – it must be tremendously hard to act a stammer. The supporting cast also played their part, the acting through the whole film was very good. The only criticism I could find with the film is that it is a little slow in the middle, but as the story comes to its climax all is forgiven.
I was so intrigued with the story the after I watched it I was straight on Wikipedia looking into the story further, learning a bit of history about the Royals.
5 out of 5 – Overall a must watch film!!
